TOP 10 METAL COVER SONGS
It's Top 10 time again! This week it's "Top 10 Metal Cover Songs." Is
there anything better than one amazing band covering another amazing
band? I think not. This list was not put together in any scientific
way, but is rather a collection of great cover versions that often find
their way into my playlist. The only rule was that bands could only
appear once in either the coverer or coveree categories. I'm sure I
missed about 5 billion great covers, and will be kicking myself later.
Mostly, I want to know what covers YOU think are phenomenal. So please,
post away and let me know, what are YOUR favorite metal covers?
10. Sodom - "Ace of Spades" (Motörhead)
Why: Who does a better Motörhead impersonation than these guys? Just watch.
9. Vader - "Fear of Napalm" (Terrorizer)
Why: Terrorizer are underrated and underappreciated. Vader showed them some love.
8. The Absence - "Into the Pit" (Testament)
Why: This one needed to be covered, and The Absence did a great job with it.
7. Slayer - "Filler/I Don't Wanna Hear It" (Minor Threat)
Why: Slayer pays homage to their hardcore punk influences. I like it.
6. Iced Earth - "Screaming for Vengeance" (Judas Priest)
Why: Iced Earth have recorded several amazing covers, but this is their absolute best, in my opinion.
5. Apocalyptica - "The Unforgiven" (Metallica)
Why: All of their Metallica covers are great, but this one always stands out in my head.
4. Metallica - "Am I Evil?" (Diamond Head)
Why: It just doesn't get any more metal than Holst's "Mars, Bringer of War." Diamond Head and Metallica were both keenly aware of this fact.
3. Pantera - "Planet Caravan" (Black Sabbath)
Why: I've always liked the thought of "Dimebag" Darrell covering a song he really enjoyed. His soul permeates through this one.
2. Children of Bodom - "Aces High" (Iron Maiden)
Why: I'm a sucker for some fast shredding. Alexi Laiho shredding Iron Maiden? Works for me.
1. Cradle of Filth - "Hell Awaits" (Slayer)
Why: This one wins by virtue of being the best cover I've ever heard of my absolute favorite song.

My favourite cover at the moment is Bullet For My Valentine covering Metallica's "Creeping Death". Idk if it's just because I'm a major Bullet fan or what, it's just incredible to me. I totally agree with "Hell Awaits" though, amazing cover.
