METALLICA ANNOUNCE TOUR AS THEY BREAK OUT THE CLASSICS AT L.A. GIG

Heavy-metal titans Metallica returned to the intimate confines of the Wiltern LG in Los Angeles last night to perform a set that even the harshest Metallica critic would have to consider beyond reproach. In order to appease fans who paid in excess of $200 to attend the benefit event, the band played for close to two hours, trotting out ancient favorites like "No Remorse" and "Seek and Destroy" from 1983's Kill 'Em All alongside more well-known material like "Enter Sandman" and everything in between.

Metallica did not play anything from their upcoming still-untitled full-length, which can be seen as good or bad, depending on your opinion of the band's newer albums. If you're curious about what the album will sound like, snippets can be heard in trailers released by the band last week.

The most newsworthy item to come out of the show was drummer Lars Ulrich's announcement that the band would be touring the U.S. in October in support of the new album. Dates have yet to be announced.

Money raised from last night's concert will go toward the Silverlake Conservatory of Music's programs and operations, along with scholarships for low-income students who can't afford instruments and music lessons. The conservatory was co-founded by Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, who joined the band for a performance of "Fight Fire With Fire."

Metallica's full set list:

"The Ecstasy of Gold"
"Creeping Death"
"Fuel"
"For Whom the Bell Tolls"
"Sanitarium"
"... And Justice for All"
"Sad But True"
"Disposable Heroes"
"One"
"Master of Puppets"
"Battery"
"Last Caress" (Misfits cover)
"No Remorse"
"Enter Sandman"
"Fight Fire With Fire" (with Flea)
"Seek and Destroy"

What a lucky day! I stumbled upon this site and what a treat. I am an old lady with a never ending supply of cats, but back in the day, before Metallica did a video, I was a rock critic in Denver. I interviewed Lars, who I disagreed with when it came to the roots of thrash. I honestly thought Metallica was going to save the world, but Enter Sandman, exit Rx. Metallica put out Load (of shit) and I was outta there. "Some Kind of Monster" made me nauseas, as did the Napster fiasco. But, seeing them play on these vids makes me again believe that they are arguably the greatest metal band ever. Thanks for this site; I look forward to visiting here regularly for my fix, cause once its in your blood.....
