BURNING ISSUE: WHO WOULD BE IN YOUR DREAM METAL BAND?

If the metal gods bestowed upon you the power to create the greatest metal supergroup of all time, what would you concoct? Keep in mind that it would have to sound good. For example, Les Claypool [of Primus] is an innovative bassist, and Jimi Hendrix was undoubtedly one of the best guitarists of all-time, but I don't think their distinctly different styles would mesh together very well. Read on to see what I came up with for my dream metal band:

Vocals: Jesse Leach (Killswitch Engage, Seemless)

For the lead vocalist, I would want Jesse David Leach, formerly of Killswitch Engage, and currently with Seemless. He has great range for both screaming and singing, as he demonstated in his work with KSE. His material with Seemless has a bit of a soulful blues swagger to it, which I believe would go well with the guitarists I've chosen. Furthermore, Jesse also writes nice, inspirational lyrics.

Guitar: Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath, Heaven and Hell)

Highlighting the group is Black Sabbath's legendary Tony Iommi on guitar. His groundbreaking virtuosity paved the way for every single metal guitarist to this day. Even with fake fingertips on two of the fingers on his fingering hand, the licks he wrote almost 40 years ago are still amazing listeners to this day.

Guitar: "Dimebag" Darrell (Pantera, Damageplan)

Accompanying Iommi on guitar is the late, great "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott of Pantera and Damageplan fame. He was a great player taken from us way to early, but his legacy lives on strong as ever. His Southern-tinged riffs would blend will with Iommi's blues influences. I'd also love to hear the two do a dueling solo.

Bass: Tom Araya (Slayer)

I'd make Tom Araya of Slayer the bassist. He would be able to give the low-end a nice groove while keeping up with the speed and technicality of the guitarists. I would like for him to throw in some back-up vocals as well, as he has a cool voice.

jordison.jpg Drums: Joey Jordison (Slipknot, Murderdolls)

I'd put Slipknot's Joey Jordison on drums. Perhaps I have a soft spot in my heart for him because the 'Knot got me into heavy music, but I also just think he's a damn good drummer, regardless of genre. In addition to Slipknot, he's also hit the skins live with bands like Metallica, Korn, Ministry and 3 Inches of Blood. It's tough to beat a resumé like that, and Joey's got the skills to back it.

I think these five incredible musicians - if given the chance - would record perfect music together. Sure, it will never happen, but it's fun to think about. But enough about my choices...
