Only the driver can stop the momentum of an 18-wheeler. Dino Cazares, founder and guitarist of up-and-comers Divine Heresy, has done just that, firing vocalist Tommy Cummings following a scary onstage altercation, according to HeadbangersBlog.com.

The decision to fire Cummings came after the beefy singer allegedly lost his cool during a show on April 26 in Poughkeepsie, New York, when the rest of the band refused to end its set early.

"He gave us 10 different reasons why we should stop - 'My microphone doesn't work, I got diarrhea, the monitors are f---ed up' - whatever he could think of," explained Cazares. "We felt that he wanted to end the show early to go hang out at the New England Metal [& Hardcore Festival], which we were supposed to be performing at the next day."

When his pleas fell on deaf ears, Cummings allegedly became irate, grabbing Tim Yeung's drumsticks and shoving Cazares to the ground. "The venue has a weird step onstage, and I hit the step and fell after he pushed me," said Cazares. "He just caught me off-balance. It was extremely unprofessional, and, in my head I just knew it was over with him."

Despite seemingly coming out of nowhere, the breakup was actually the result of several months of turmoil, apparently. "He's a big, intimidating guy and he knows how to use that to his advantage," said Cazares. "We didn't agree on a lot of things, and we thought it was better that he left."

Divine Heresy were forced to cancel their April 27 headlining slot at the New England Metal & Hardcore Festival. The band returned home to California, where it's are frantically auditioning new singers, attempting to find one in time for a scheduled tour with Arch Enemy that begins May 9 in Philadelphia.
